EVERYONE needs a website.  Even if you're not planning to sell online, a well-made website is essential for any business - even if you are a small business in a small town. More consumers are using the Internet to shop than ever before and those who still purchase offline will use the Web to begin their search. This means that any business without a website is increasingly losing business.  A smaller, less popular business with a website will be more likely to attract clients than a larger, well known business that does not have a site. An online presence is the most affordable means available for reaching new customers and increasing profits.  If you have a business, you should have a website. Period. No question. Without a doubt.

How to find a Search Engine (SEO) Consultant
 
Many companies can design attractive websites. They can even lease them to you.  But, the majority of developers do not understand how to make your site visible on the Internet.  Your business needs to locate a qualified search engine optimization (SEO) company that specializes in the type of website leasing you require. The key is to find a company that extensively offers search engine optimization services at competitive SEO rates to maximize ROI and click through traffic.  A website needs to be found to be functional.
1 Find out the Lease Company's page placement.  Where does the website leasing company's own website rank in the search engines?  If they are on the first page of a "lease a website" search, they obviously have done something right - you found them!  But, don't be fooled by companies listed as 'Sponsored Links', they had to PAY to be found because they aren't properly optimized.
2 Do research of your website leasing company and their SEO skill.  Many businesses believe that a search engine optimization company should be chosen for its ability to get high rankings. However, there are more complex issues that should be investigated. A SEO firm should be able to find your business's high-profit segments, identify your client base, and make changes to your marketing campaign over time. Find the SEO developer who will create a campaign that is truly successful.
3 Check the SEO experience of the leasing company.  How do their customer's websites rank for their keywords?  Ask for customer feedback if none is listed on the website.  Find out if the Web leasing company has been reported to the Better Business Bureau.  See if the company has had any articles (positive or negative) written about them. Ask around. Try to have some idea of the company's creditability.  Don't be scammed.
4 Ask questions - lots and lots of questions.  Do not be afraid to ask what will be done to increase your ranking. Most SEOs will have no problem telling you what they will do. They may not want to reveal their entire SEO activity, but they will give you some insight to what will be done. Take note of the process used when discussing your website needs and keyword requirements.  Deciding on the appropriate keywords impacts search engine optimization and the ability to reach your goals. If the company is trying to determine and understand your needs and develop a cost effective solution, it is probably a good company to consider.
5 Discover what SEO related guarantees they make.  The right company will never promise you guaranteed top search engine rankings. The primary SEO guarantee you should expect of a company is for them to do their best to help you achieve your company's goals.  High ranking can be obtained, but achieving it is an on-going effort and requires time.  Don't fall for a company's promise of achieving high ranking immediately after you hire them.  High rankings achieved in an illegal manner can cause your site to be dropped from the listing of major search engines - forever.
6 Compare pricing. Price is never an indication of how good a service is.  More isn't always better.  The key to finding a good SEO consultant is to find a good website developer - one who optimizes your site during the design process for a realistic fee.  Your website needs to be found to be functional.
